Vintage Varsity Canvas Collage

We are half way through our Vintage Varsity review and this piece created by Ginny is a show stopper. This dimensional mixed media piece is perfect for a sports room, to highlight a great child’s sports photo or a gift for a sports fanatic. Hey there Paper Peeps! Ginny here to share that I super love Vintage Varsity. As a Mom of two boys it’s such a great line for scrapping their sports pics….or for making a project for Dear Old Dad for Father’s Day….like this canvas collage I created with layers of patterned papers, clips and charms and lots of fussy cut images.

This project starts with a Canvas Corp 10×10 Stretched Canvas. What makes this canvas unique is it does not have gesso, it is a great quality canvas on a frame. Canvas without gesso brings out the best in inks, mists, paints and dyes, showing off their rich deep colors. A touch of distressing ink or a neutral colored mist will achieve this look. The dimensional part comes from the “book” I created to anchor the images and bits an pieces to.

Just like a book laying open with all the treasured memories from school tucked inside.

I added eyelets to this fun varsity pennant and gave it some extra dimension so I could tuck in the football player image. I’ve also included some die cut viewmaster slides in the green to bring the color forward from the canvas base. A little stamping and a coat of glossy embossing for a nice textural change.

Framing the numbers in the Brass Optical Lens is a fun detail and draws the eye to the Avocado Mini Clothespins. I’ve also added the sports charms with a bit of string pulled from the green burlap. The touch of the Varsity Charms in brass also gives this amazing piece even more dimension.
