Wings on Wednesday – Dare to spread your Wings!

Hi everyone, Heidi from www.makeyourlifecolourful.com here, today I would like to show you guys another one of my Wings on Wednesday projects, this time an art journal page.

Today I’m working in my 7gypsies Architextures “Vintage Pink“ Mix and Match Book and I choose a page with a background that looks like the back of a vintage postcard. The fun thing about this Mix and Match Book is that you can take pages out while you’re working on it and you can put it back in when you’re finished. And even though the pages are not made out of watercolor paper they can handle a lot of water, so that’s always a plus!

Step 1:

To get my project started, I stamped one of the wing sets from a Studio Light stamp set (STAMPSL273) onto the 7gypsies Gypsy Moments “Take Our Breath Away“ paper using Archival Ink in the color “Jet Black“ and using my MISTI. Then I fussy cut both wings using my scissors leaving a small white border. I used the side of the paper with the greenish harlequin design.

I also choose one of the shapes in a Scrapiniec (2243) chipboard set to combine with my wings.

To enhance the wing design I slightly colored the fussy cut wings with my Faber Castell Polychromos colored pencils using the numbers 168 and 173.

I also sprayed the chipboard piece with some Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in the color “Nougat“ to make it a little less stark white.

Step 2:

Here I’m going to work on my actual page: I first stamped the title that I wanted to use, using the same black ink as before. The title is from the Finnabair cling stamp set with number #962005. Next I stamped some harlequin designs (this is the Finnabair #960834 stamp) over the page in several places, but most heavily on the bottom of my page, this will ground my chipboard figure a little bit better. I used the same black ink as before.

When the ink was dry I applied some The Crafter’s Workshop “Light & Fluffy Modeling Paste“over a The Crafter’s Workshop stencil called “Tree Paradise“ using a palette knife and set that aside to dry.

Step 3:

Now I’m going to ad color to my background: I applied Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in the color “Caper Green“ to my page with a brush and then sprayed with water, this makes the color run, when I liked what I had an dried the page with my heat tool. This process I repeated several times until I was happy! Then I splattered on the page, to create some depth and dimension, using Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in the color “Tattered Leather“.

When the splatters were dry, I distressed the edges of my page using an edge distresser, but you can also use your scissors.

Step 4:

To finish my project I’m first adhering the chipboard image to the page using one millimetre thick foam tape and then slip the wings underneath it and adhere them using liquid glue.

I’ve never heard of spreading glimmer mist on with a brush & spraying it with water. Looks great!
