I had a few leftover bits and pieces of paper, burlap and canvas from my Valentine’s Day cards and wanted to make a mixed media project. I was watching Grease as I was crafting. The “Pink Ladies” got stuck in my head. I could not stop thinking about the “Beauty School Drop Out”, those matching jackets and sweet innocent Sandra Dee all “Lousy with Virginity”. A Pink Lady on display in my craft room was a must. Wings are my latest obsession and would be a better fit than a leather jacket for my lady so… I just went with it and here I am on Wings On Wednesday 🙂
For this project you are going to need the following:
Canvas Corp Amore Paper Pack
Canvas Corp Paris Fabric Panel
Canvas Corp Hot Pink Burlap
Tattered Angels Calendar Paint System – Roses
7gypsies Mixed Media Artboard
7gypsies Architextures Short Based Doilies
7gypsies Architextures International Coins
7gypsies Architextures Angel Wings
7gypsies Architextures Short Base Wings
Directions:
Add a little bit of color with the glaze using light brush strokes on the artboard:
Repeat the process with the Glam in the spots you did not paint with the glaze:
Place the Dolies on the canvas and spray:
Set the artboard to the side to dry. Sketch a figure on a piece of heavy duty cardstock:
Flip the paper over and adhere scraps bits of paper, burlap and canvas with clear gesso.
Spray with Glimmer Mist and let dry:
Once dry, cut the image out you drew on the back:
Place the short base Angel Wings on your artboard.
I used a ruler to help line them up and made sure the tips almost touched the edges.
Use pop dots to add the image.
I added a necklace and belt made out of ribbon from my stash.
I also wanted polka dots on the skirt so I used the Architextures International Coins to do so. Buttons would be darling as well.
TIP: Look around your craft room for round odds and ends that you will not use and add them.
Carefully slide the smaller pair of wings under the image.
Add a head (I used a clay piece I had in my stash from Lisa Kettell Designs. I liked her because she has pink hair!) and create legs from strips of paper and feet from the international coins cut in fourths.
Finally, trim the sentiments from the Adore paper and attach them to the canvas:
Mixed Media canvases are so much fun to create with left overs you just don’t want to part with. Don’t be afraid to think outside of the box and use things not necessarily the way they were designed to be used — that’s part of the fun!
