Wings On Wednesday – Canvas Art Journal

Claudia Neubacher is today’s Wings On Wednesday designer.
Using Architextures Angel Wings, she embellishes the canvas cover of her art journal – the only arty thing she manages to find space for in her over-packed car while preparing for holidays.

As I will be leaving on a five weeks holiday next week and can’t take a lot of paints, canvases or other media with me as our car is stuffed to the brim with “urgently needed” things, like our inflatable kayak and reflector telescope, for example. I decided to only take an art journal, some pencils and watercolours with me – just in case I felt I needed to do a little drawing or painting. This way, I will have at least some canvas with me because I used the fab 7gypsies Starter Journal (with a beautifully stitched seam binding) and the matching Starter Journal Cover that is made from raw canvas. I love it!

Claudia used the following materials for this project:
7gypsies – Starter Journal – Ivory 5×7

7gypsies – Starter Journal Cover 8.5×11
7gypsies – Architextures 8×8 Paper Pad
7gypsies – Ordre du Jour 8×8 Paper Pad
7gypsies – Architextures – Findings – Angel Wings and Old Paint Brush
Canvas Corp – Jute Balls Natural 225′
Tattered Angels – Glimmer Mist – DijonPomegranate
Tattered Angels – High Impact Paint – IvoryLight Pink
Tattered Angels – Glimmer Glam – Organic Garden
Tattered Angels – Chalkboard Mist Paint – InchwormValencia
Palette knife, Heat tool, Fine tip brush
Upholsterers needle, Vintage button
Spray bottle with water
Black archival stamping ink, Letter stamps
DecoArt Americana matte Decou-Page

Using a palette knife scrape on Ivory and Light Pink High Impact Paint. Let dry (or use a heat tool to speed up the process).

Scrape on Inchworm Glimmer Glam. Let dry.

Mist the whole cover with water (using a spray bottle) and then sprinkle on various Glimmer Mist and Chalkboard Mist paints using the nozzles’ tubes for sprinkling. Heat dry.

Add more sprinkles of Pomegranate Glimmer Mist. Attach the Old Paint Brush to the cover.

Use a fine tip brush and dip it directly into the unscrewd Glimmer Mist bottle to paint a thin Pomegranate border.

Browse your 7gypsies paper pads for matching ephemera, cut them out, stamp your words and then glue them to the cover using matte Decou-Page. Add the Angel Wings to both sides of the Old Paint Brush sticker. .

Insert the pages to find the right spot to sew the vintage button to as a closure.

Use jute string and an upholsterers needle to sew on the button. Leave a long end to wrap around the journal several times to keep it shut. You’re done!
