Taru Jehkonen here on the CCB blog sharing my art journal entry called ‘You Color My World’.
I like a variety of colors but my definite weakness is green – I try to avoid using green whenever possible. But recently Tattered Angels have released two amazing Glimmer Mist colors: Golden Lime and Dark Vintage Green.
That new colors really inspired to me jump out of my comfort zone and here’s what came out of my little experiment…
I tend to start work by collecting suitable materials on my workstation. Here’s what I used for this Art Journal entry:
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist – It’s Orange, Pomegranate, Golden Lime, Kraft, Dark Vintage Green
Tattered Angels Glimmer Glaze – Pewter
Tattered Angels High Impact Paint – Black, White
7gypsies Architextures Treasures – Dress Form Model 1954
Canvas Corp – Bohemian Romance 8×8 Paper Pack
Canvas Corp – 12×12 E-Flute Kraft
Canvas Corp – 12×12 Printed Burlap Sheet – Chevron
Canvas Corp – 12×12 Burlap Sheet – Green
Canvas Corp – Cotton Canvas
Tattered Angels Mixed Media Origins Mini Art – Perfume Bottles
Next, I did a little planning of how the materials will be placed on the page later on.
This helps me get an idea on how to build the background.
I glued large pieces of paper towel on the background using gesso. Then I glued some pieces of paper and e-flute.
Finally, I treated the whole surface with gesso.
When background was dry, I colored the page using Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists like watercolors.
I used greens and brown for the background and orange and red for the awesome perfume bottle.
When I got all the details of the background ready, I started building up my page.
I added even more details, layers and so on with burlap, cheesecloth, cotton canvas.
I made the final darkening on the edges with Tattered Angels Glimmer glaze.
And – of course – a few splatters with white and black High Impact Paint.
I hope you like my textured art journal page.
Happy crafting, friends!
