Adding Texture to a Tattered Angels Project

This month on the Tattered Angels blog the Design Team is taking a look at creating texture with different mediums. Although I’m going to look at 2 different mediums later this month I decided to focus on how one can create texture using embossing and crackle.

What happens if you, like me, live far from any art store, LSS or big box stores and you need to create texture sooner rather than later. That is my problem, not being close to any source to purchase art supplies. You can still create texture for your chosen project with what you have on hand.

Using an old round shaker style wood box I took Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in Boardwalk to give it a true aged look. Using Ranger Grunge Paper I embossed it with one of my favorite embossing folders, Paisley Palooza. I painted the grunge paper using Tattered Angels Chalkboard in Splash, Glimmer Mist in Atlantic and splashed it with Boardwalk again. I then cut hexagon shapes with a Sizzix Die ~ Hexagons to create my texture pieces {this was inspired from a post on the Sizzix blog created by Jan Hobbins}. After applying the pattern to the top of the shaker box I cut a keyhole with another Sizzix Bigz Die ~ Hardware Findings by Tim Holtz. I sprayed it with Boardwalk, and then applied Tim Holtz Distress Crackle in Picket Fence, once dry I applied several coats of Glimmer Glaze in Mercury Glass. With added metal embellishments and trim my once plain wood shaker box is texturized for additional interest.

I used this same technique on a CHA project that was displayed in the Tattered Angels booth…I love the finished look.

Thanks for stopping by and I’ll be back the 22nd with 2 more projects utilizing different texturing materials that I do always keep on hand. Make sure that you make a point to stop by everyday to see what new project is being displayed.
