Welcome to Friday with Friends! Today Crew Member Lynne Joncas is going to take us on her creative journey
as she pairs Canvas Corp Brand products with Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts!
IN LYNNE’S WORDS
Hi there, crafty friends! Lynne Joncas here with a project to show you how wonderfully Canvas Corp Brands products work with Gypsy Soul Lasercuts! I’m fortunate to be a Designer/Educator at Gypsy Soul Lasercuts as well as a CCB Crew member. So, I’ve had many opportunities to combine the lovely goodies from both companies. For this post,
I chose to create an 8″x10″ mixed media “Finnabair-style” assemblage:
Watch Lynne’s creative process
I started by figuring out roughly where I wanted everything, creating a basic design so I would be able to figure out where to add stenciling etc. Note that a few items were moved or switched out on the finished project. The words, key, lock, flourishes and chipboard flowers are all Gypsy Soul Lasercuts.I then made some homemade texture paste ( I like the baby powder recipe that can be found HERE)
Make it fairly thick so it doesn’t bleed under your stencil-I really hate when that happens!
After I applied the paste where I wanted it, I primed the whole project with gesso; as you can see here, the more colourful items ended up needing a couple extra coats.
Once the gesso was dry, I applied a coat of High Impact paint in Kraft and allowed that to dry as well, before beginning to mist. I started with the earth tones before adding the green and the pink, and allowed each colour to dry before adding the next. You can add more of any colour afterwards to get the effect you want. I found that I needed another layer of both the green and the pink, probably due to the coloured background.
I found I wanted some added depth in the colours, so I brushed some copper Color Wash Paint on the flowers and the words.
Brushing a bit of the Festival mist over the flowers was just enough to give them a warm rich tone.
The chipboard feathers and keys were painted with High Impact Paint in Ivory, then lightly misted with English Ivy and Festival glimmer mists.
The edge of the canvas was wrapped with lace, then I tied a knot at the lower right corner and attached the chipboard keys and feathers
to dangling lace pieces and some green ribbon to create a dreamcatcher effect.
I hope you’ve enjoyed our visit today, and if you’d like to check out the fabulous chipboard products available from Gypsy Soul Lasercuts, you can find the store HERE
