How to Make Your Own – Candy Apple Painted Jars

Clever ideas for the school bake sale, fall party treats or maybe teacher gifts are always great to have.  Crew member Erin Reed shows us how to transform simple mason jars into adorable apple containers that can be filled with a wide range of items from apple flavored candies, apple cider, canned items or maybe layers of ingredients to make an apple treat.

Fall is coming soon as the season starts to get cooler (well not much here in Texas) fun things start to be seen.  The leaves change, apples are abound, pumpkins, fall harvest, and hayrides.  I think autumn in my favorite season, the colors the feel of it all, and cooler weather.  So as a fun treat to my kids teachers, and a fun pun on the idea of giving an apple to the teacher as a gift for the fall harvest, I decided to make a sweet treat of a candy apple jar.

I took simple canning jars from the grocery store, you can upcycled jars you have used up, and turned them into little apples filled with candy.  Not only are the jars filled with green and red candy to make then the color of red and green apples, I also added Stained Glass in Lime and Glimmer Glam in Roses R Red.  The Stained Glass does exactly like it sounds, it stains the glass in the paint color, but still leaves the glass transparent.  The Glimmer Glam is the same base of paint, but with tons of yummy mica and glimmer, so it is not completely transparent when dried as seen above.  The glitter also dried into the paint leaving no flaky glitter mess.

paintI then added in some Canvas Corp Papers in red and green to help top off the lids and added in some clay stems and leaves to complete the look.
