We love our family, we love our old, heritage photos. But how do we incorporate them into our home decor in a fresh, modern way? Print the photos on canvas and create this beautiful shadowbox!
This shadowbox contains lots of texture and vintage details in a clean, modern design. Here’s how I did it:
Supplies Used
- Canvas Scraps
- Jute Cord – Black
- Mix & Match Pad – Farmhouse -Black Diamond on Kraft Cardstock cut to 6X6
- Mix & Match Pad – Farmhouse – Corrugated Paper cut just larger than photo
- Glimmer Glam – Chandelier
- Vintage Button
- 8×8 Shadowbox frame from big box craft store (don’t forget your coupon!)
- Adhesive & Pop Dots
Printing Photo on Canvas
- Scan photo into your computer and size as desired (I am using a wallet size photo)
- Print photo on plain paper
- Choose a canvas scrap that is flat (iron if necessary) and just a bit larger than your photo size
- Run a single line of dry tape adhesive (like the ATG Gun) across the top of your canvas scrap, then apply to the printed picture – put it right on top of the photo you just printed on plain paper.
- Insert paper with attached canvas into your printer and print your picture – – you made need to help “ease” the paper with canvas through the printer
- Trim canvas scrap around photo creating a border
Altering your canvas photo
- Using a straight pin, pull at the edges of your canvas photo, creating a frayed border all around
- Cover your canvas photo with Champagne Glimmer Glam using a stiff paint brush – be sure to get those frayed edges to seal them and prevent them from fraying more
- While your photo dries – manipulate it a little – push up the edges to give it some shape and character
- Once dry, attach pop dots or dimensional tape to back of photo – I would suggest using a good liquid glue in addition to the adhesive on the pop dots to insure adhesion since we are using fabric and textured paper
Finishing Project
- Attach canvas photo to corrugated mat with pop dots
- Wrap black jute cord around bottom of corrugated a few times and knot on front
- Adhere matted photo to black diamond kraft cardstock
- Insert complete photo collage into shadow box frame
And that’s all there is to it! Thanks for stopping by the blog – have a creative day!
