Mixed Media Origins Bird Art with Glimmer Mist

Our Tattered Angels Mixed Media Origins papers are very versatile and can be used in almost any project you can think of. Today, Chris Pozzi shares with us her project where she turned her ‘Flight’ MMO Paper into a framed painting to decorate her house. You will love the process and the outcome!

‘After creating my background for a layout using the Tattered Angels Origins papers, I am hooked! Having recently adopting a Quaker Parrot, I am a bit bird crazy so the Flight paper was a great place to jump in. You can see the tribute to my parrot in the Green Birdie lower right of my project. Creating this page was so relaxing! I loved painting with my mists and glazes to make the project come alive. I used 17 different colors in all! I even ended up mixing a few colors to expand my palette.’ – Chris Pozzi

Here is a quick slide show of the project….

Tools:  Paint Brushes

Tattered Angels Mixed Media Origins - Flight

Start by painting the “brick” section of the Tattered Angels Flight paper with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in Black Cherry, using a small detail brush to paint around the edges of the bird cage, heart, rope and lace. Once the edges are painted, fill in the rest of the brick with a larger paint brush.

Paint Heartstrings with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist Bronze. Continue by painting the branches and perches with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist It’s Brown that has been diluted with water – you can achieve that by spraying some mist onto a paint pallet or craft sheet and adding a few drops of water.

Paint the “sky” with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist Mountain Mist. Don’ t worry if your mists or mica looks heavier in some spots than in others. It will add dimension to the sky.

Paint the bird cage with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist Silver Sugar. Mix Tattered Angels Nougat Glimmer Mist with Tattered Angels White Chalkboard to paint the heart. Lightly paint the corrugated shadows of the heart with Tattered Angels Nougat.

Color your flowers with a detail paint brush and Tattered Angels Glaze Plumeria. Add Tattered Angels Mellow Yellow Glaze to your flowers centers.

Paint your greenery using 3 different shades of green to add dimension. Start with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist Snowy Pine in the darker areas of the greenery. Add Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist English Ivy to the remaining greenery. Highlight random areas of the greenery with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist Kiwi. (If you notice you missed a few flowers, like I did, just go back and fill them in.)

Time to paint your birds. For the blue bird, start by painting Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist Patina over the bird. Add some random highlights with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist Kiwi.

For the yellow bird, paint the bird with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist Summer Glow, then add Tattered Angels Alaskan Salmon Chalkboard along the marked brush strokes on the paper. Paint the red bird using Tattered Angels Simply Sheer Rosey. Continue painting the adjacent bird with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist Patina and accenting with the Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in Snowy Pine.

Paint the robin’s belly with Tattered Angels It’s Orange Glimmer Mist. Paint the remainder of the robin’s body with Tattered Angels It’s Brown Glimmer Mist. Add hints of Tattered Angels It’s Brown to the belly to create shadowing. To create the “woodpecker” , paint the body with Tattered Angels Nougat Glimmer Mist that has been mixed with Tattered Angels White Chalkboard. Color the head with Tattered Angels Black Cherry Glimmer Mist. Paint the other yellow bird with Tattered Angels Canary Chalkboard, highlighting areas with Tattered Angels Summer Glow Glimmer Mist.

The final bird (on the heart): paint the bird using Tattered Angels Canary Chalkboard. Add color accents with Tattered Angels Patina Glimmer mist. Finish off by painting the beaks and toes of the birds using Tattered Angels Summer Blow Glimmer Mist or Tattered Angels It’s Brown Glimmer Mist.

How amazing is the final work?! We love the idea of turning it into a painting then framing to be displayed in one of your rooms.
