Hello, I am Michelle Wells and I have a mixed media painting I’d like to share with you today. I absolutely love drawing, painting and mixed media, so I combined all three loves to make this 9×12 canvas, into an inspiring piece of art to brighten any room. And with the AMAZING Tattered Angels High Impact Paints, it has never been so easy to create a mixed media canvas.
Products used in the mixed media painting:
Tattered Angels High Impact Paint – Turquoise, Lime Green, Hot Pink, Black
Tattered Angels Chalkboard Mist – Canary
Tattered Angels Glimmer Glam – Clear
Aga Baraniak Compose Your Life Collection 12×12 Paper – Be Amazing and Flower Pieces
Matte Gel (I used Mod Podge), Texture Paste, Iridescent Medium, Beacon Mixed Media Glue
Embroidery Thread, Washi Tape, Ribbon, Glitter, Ink Pads
Watercolor Pencils, Paint Pens-Black & White
Scrapbook Paper, Embellishments of choice
I used gel medium to add my pre-drawn and cut face design to a 9×12 canvas. I used flesh colored watercolor pencils for the face color, for the eyes and lips. I then used Texture Paste and a small plastic spatula to form textured hair.
Next step, background. I chose Tattered Angels High Impact Paints for this.
Used a good size dollop of the TA High Impact Paint in Turquoise, then sprayed liberally with water, and did a “drip and runny” technique.
I also did the same with the TA High Impact Paint in Lime Green.
Once the background layers had dried, I used a paper towels, with the High Impact Paints in Turquoise and Lime Green to add definition. I also used Hot Pink TA High Impact Paint and TA Chalkboard Mist, in droplets, to give the effect of flowers.
I chose the TA High Impact Paint in Hot Pink, watered down for a watercolor effect to color to the flowers from Aga Baraniak’s Flower Pieces paper, and I used a drop of Tattered Angels Chalkboard Mist in Canary to the center of each flower. I used watercolor pencils, once again, to color the leaves for the largest flower used in her hair. I used Tattered Angels Glimmer Glam in clear, to add a slight sheen and shimmer to the watercolor flowers.
For additional interest to the background, I used stamps and stencils with ink and iridescent paste, as well as randomly placed washing tape over the design.
For additional interest to the background, I used stamps and stencils with ink and iridescent paste, as well as randomly placed washi tape over the design.
Finishing touch on my Artsy Girl, was her hair. I used TA High Impact Paint in Black to color her hair, after applying coiled matte medium soaked embroidery thread in dark gray, over the texture paste.
For added sparkle, I added black glitter to the drying paint.
I finished her hair with a sheer ribbon, a painted flower and leaves from Aga Baraniak’s Flower Pieces paper, and a whimsical butterfly from my personal stash.
The last thing I added was to her scrapbook paper dress, and that was adding the phrase “Be Amazing” cut from Aga Baraniak’s Be Amazing paper.
I hope I have inspired you to try some mixed media painting, too.
Have a crafty day!!!
Michelle
