Pirates Log - "To the Sea" Challenge

For this project Natassa Blazaki was inspired by the sea theme of this month’s challenge. Today we get the chance to learn from her how to create something similar to what she did.

We let Natassa tell us:

“The first thing that always comes to my mind are shipwrecks and pirate stories. That’s how the idea of creating a Pirate’s Log came up. I used two pieces of art board, to create the covers of the log. I chose different Tattered Angels paints and combined them with texture pastes and gels to create texture. Also used pieces of canas and cheesecloth to add to the distressed look I was aiming for. For the log’s inserts I used papers from 7 Gypsies collection “Ordre du jour” (Order of the Day). The whole project has a vintage-distressed look which is always my favorite. I really hope you enjoy it too!”

Glue some canvas fabric on the inside of the art boards. On the outside, put some cheese cloth and on top of that apply Graphite Texture Paste with a palette knife. While the Graphite Paste is still wet, spray with Tattered Angels Simply Sheer “Pure Steel” and Glimmer Mist “Dijon”. Set aside and let the covers dry completely.

Mix Tattered Angels Color Wash Paint “Patina Faux Finish” with 3D Gloss Gel and apply it with a palette knife through a stencil. While the gel-paint mixture is still wet, let a few drops of alcohol ink. When it dries, it will give the effect of mosaic tiles.

Glaze the surface with Tattered Angels Glimmer Glam “Caspian Sea”. This deep blue-green color will tone down the background and give it a vintage look. Use patinas and acrylic paint in a very light color to highlight some of the textures.
