We’ve had such a fun week participating in our blog hop with Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft. It is truly our hope that these great projects from two wonderful design teams will inspire you to get crafty! Don’t forget to comment at the bottom of this post, as well as the others from this week, for your chance to win a $50 prize package (winner selected April 20).
On our last day, we have a special project created by our in-house graphic designer, JoAnne Doshier. JoAnne is a huge fan of purple (it’s her favorite color!)…she’s also a watercolor artist by trade. You should see some of her stuff!
To create on this 18×18 inch canvas (which is currently on sale at shop.canvascorpbrands.com), she used a new feather paper from Canvas Corp, a paper that she also designed! We love this paper. It’s printed on a thick, 80# cardstock that works wonders on mixed media pieces. She added a nice layer of Faber-Castell gesso to prime her piece for gelatos, metallic pens and paper crafter crayons.
Aren’t these feathers to die for? She mixed real feathers with paper feathers is this mini twig-sculpture. The artwork from the feather paper allows for added color, so she use the paper crafter crayons to fill in the white space, and of course added some color to the real feathers (side note, JoAnne collects these feathers and twigs while she walks her dog Maynard, who’s named after a turn of century Southwest Artist).
To create the center, she printed off a fun saying and adhered it to a piece of canvas, to which she frayed the edges. And yes, added that beautiful shimmery purple color to the twigs as well.
Lastly, she wrapped this canvas up like a gift, using Canvas Corp’s newest color of burlap, purple, combined with chocolate. Love how those textures mix!
Thanks for hopping with us this week, and don’t forget to leave a comment for your chance to win a prize package!

Love the purple burlap ribbon. The entire design is wild and beautiful.
thanks for sharing a fantastic project.
this has been a great week. I’ve found a new company (I do a lot of shopping online) so I’ll be looking thru the catalog. I’ve gotten several ideas for new projects and I’ll need the basics to start them.

LOVE the feather paper! I am a feather hoarder since childhood and have lots that I just can’t bear to use!
Joanne is a very talented lady! I love how much texture she has added to this canvas and the colors are perfect! I really like the sentiment too! My favorite thing about this is that it could be for a female or a male! Not many projects can be both without leaning toward one or the other more but this one has the perfect balance of both! Thanks for the inspiration Joanne!

Beautiful canvas. Coloring the feathers, and adding color to the real feathers is a beautiful touch. And love the bit of nature added with the twigs.

Beautiful canvas. Love the color added to the paper and real flowers. And the bit of twig adds to the feel of nature.

What a unique canvas. Love the real feathers mixed with the paper feathers which are so well done that at first glance you don’t notice they are paper. Beautiful work on this original piece.

Oh my word that is beautiful! I had no idea what could be down with canvas until the hop and my brain is whizzing with so many ideas. I must try to find a UK supplier of your canvas products – love them and love how you use them too! Thanks for another fabulous day of inspiration – the blog hop has been awesome! Karen x
