Stars Can’t Shine….Mixed Media Canvas

“Stars can’t shine without darkness”, is a great quote turned into a fabulous project by crew member, Lynne Forsythe. She brought these words to life through canvas, inks, paints and various supplies. Its a perfect piece for this gloomy, cold time of year, where we are all looking forward to longer days filled with sunny skies and warmer temperatures. The stars will be shining bright at night at backyard parties, romantic dinners and camping getaways. This is a perfect project to ring in the new season. P.S. the groundhog saw his shadow, must mean Spring will be here soon…….Now here’s Lynne!

Hi Canvas Corp Fans
Lynne Forsythe here
with a mixed media canvas I created.

Stars Can't canvas by Lynne Forsythe

I began my creative process with a
I manhandled the products before
I adhered them to my canvas
with Ranger’s ~ Multi Medium Matte.

I let my creative juices have there way
and let the fun begin!!

I pulled out a jar of
Perfect Paints ~ Polishing Plaster ~ Sunwashed Clay,
and after working the plaster I applied it through a
UmWowSTUDIOS ~ Handwriting Stencil
with a palette knife.

While the medium was still wet I  spritz my canvas
with various Tattered Angel’s Glimmer Mist
Crushed Shells
Golden Orange
Roll Top Desk
Pumpkin Spice

While I was patiently waiting for everything to dry,

I pulled out some Cattails Chippies from
UmWowSTUDIOS ~  Floral Set.
With a round brush I applied
Tattered Angels ~ Glimmer Glam ~ Lime Cordial
to the stems and leaves
and dabbed on Sunwashed Clay with my finger
onto the cattails.

When dry, I inked the Cattails with
Ranger’s Archival Ink.

My project needed a bit more foliage
so I pulled out 2 pieces from the
UmWowSTUDIOS ~ Leaf Stems set.
I chose a combo of
Tattered Angels ~ Glimmer Glaze ~ Sea Kelp
and Glimmer Glam ~ Lime Cordial
to paint the chippies.

When my canvas was “pretty much” dry,
I applied a rough layer of Gesso.

I then spritzed
UmWowSTUDIOS ~ Distressed Harlequin Background
with various colors of Tattered Angels ~ Glimmer Mist.
When dry, I adhered it to my canvas with
Ranger’s Multi Medium ~ Matte
and I sewed a piece of chicken wire,
over top the chippie,
onto  my canvas.

I then complied my canvas….
I love how the Petaloo blooms just
pop off the canvas.

I love all the different textural elements to my canvas.

Now if you are familiar with my work, you will know
I like my pieces to say something.

I used one of
Yvonne Blair Designs/Impression Obsession stamps.
I decided to try something different
so I stamped onto a piece
of dictionary paper,
I LIKE the look!
I then mounted my stamped image onto
a stray piece of
Canvas Corp Brands ~ E Flute ~ Black.

I hope you have enjoyed my tutorial
and I hope it has inspired you to
pull our you creative goodies and
CREATE!!

Lynne – this is just FABULOUSLY STUNNING. Of course, I’m a bit prejudiced because I ADORE these particular rich, vibrant, colors!! Your background is just OVER THE MOON wonderful. The chicken wire is so PERFECT and I love the cardboard too. Honestly love everything about your creative canvas. FANTASTIC. XX j.
