Winter is here for many of us around the world – a time for snow, ice, hot cocoa, snowmen, sledding, icicles, ice skates, snow plows and snow angels. When the temperatures travel across the phone or television screen to alert us of cold days ahead, many shiver at the thought but the wonder that winter brings is so inspiring for winter-time projects. Crew member Kerstin-Inga Peters shows us just that in this wonderful shadowbox style mixed media piece that truly brings out the beauty of winter.
The new year has begun and I really hope you had an awesome holiday season and a good start into 2017. Unfortunately it wasn’t a white Christmas for us, but we have winter season so eventually it would be snow?! Our children are very curious to know when will it happen. They want to try out the new sled. So I have created a picture frame with winter feelings, snowflakes, sled, snowman, only in winter colors white and blue. – Kerstin-Inga Peters
Materials Used:
Canvas Corp White Cardstock
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist Verdigris
Tattered Angels Chalkboard Splash
Tattered Angels Glimmer Chips ‘Frosty Memories’ – these are vintage Tattered Angels – but any winter die cuts are prefect
Other Items: Clear Stamp Best wishes; old wooden frame; ; Sizzix Embossing folder ‘Snowflakes’; little pine cones; white Gesso; Ranger white embossing powder; Photo

Tools Used; Cuttlebug as embossing machine; Paper distresser tool
After cutting cardstock I colored the paper and frame with glimmer mists in small and large stains. The mist paint will adhere to just about any surface. Surfaces that are slicker, you can use a heating tool and that will help it adhere better and really show off the mica and glimmer.
Create two stripes, emboss it with snowflakes or other winter themed designs or you can stamp or sketch the snowflakes if you don’t have this embossing tool. Use an edge paper distresser, add glimmer mist spray and spritz water to let the inks move around.
Add details such as stamped or written words, tags and other added touches with a blank or white marker or paint them. You can also stamp onto the wood using jet blank ink.
Don’t be afraid to add dimensional items to you shadow box such as ephemera or pine cones to give your shadowbox a more detailed style. Use a snow texture product, here white gesso for pine cones and white embossing powder for sled.
Glue all items into place putting some behind the frame and some in front of the frame. You can also use matte board that would go inside a picture frame to create a project like this.
We hope the snow comes when you would like it to and that you get just the right photo of the kids, your home or other work of art covered with snow. To see more of Kerstin-Inga’s work visit her blog and follow her on Instagram.
