We are reminding you today to get the camera batteries charged, your lenses wiped clean and the space on your phone memory cleared out just in time for holiday photos. We focus on photos of the family, the tree and maybe the gifts, but think about photos of the world around you too – snow on the ground, a child eating a Christmas cookie or a close up of your favorite ornament. These photos make terrific focal point photos for layouts and photo crafts. If you are not a scrapbooker but love photos there are so many clever ways to show off your photos or store them. We just had to share this fun layout by crew member Christine Santos that we hope will inspire you to take lots of photos, make sure to get them printed and then do something fun with them. Our Crew offers a monthly challenge and this year it is all about “Christmas Where You Are.” We think about snow, warm clothes, sweaters and chilly nights when we think about the weather for Christmas. Well in New Zealand their Christmas is quite different with warm weather, shorts and t-shirts and not a bit of snow in sight.
“This fun Christmas mixed media layout is inspired by our CCB “Christmas Where You Are” December Challenge, and features Canvas Corp’s Jolly Christmas collection and Tattered Angels paints. Christmas in New Zealand means summer….BBQ parties, going to the beach and the best part is the abundance of fresh strawberries to eat. In this layout is my daughter and niece devouring fresh strawberries by the Christmas tree. They sure worked up an appetite after opening all the presents. As you can see there’s nothing left on the plate.” – Christine Santos
Materials Used:
Canvas Corp Materials: Journal Lines on Ivory Paper, Candy Canes Paper, All Wrapped Up Reverse Paper, Jolly Christmas Sayings Paper, Farmhouse Christmas Tags on Ivory, Black E-Flute Paper, Mini White Paper Bag, Black Paper Bag, Red Burlap Sheet, Lime Green Burlap Flower, Black Small ClothespinsTattered Angels Materials: Corduroy Pure Mistable Paper, Glimmer Mists (Cross My Heart; Emerald Green, Pearl, It’s Black), Chalk Chalkboard MistOther materials: Gesso, Texture Paste, Flowers
The Journal Lines on Ivory Paper gives the background a fun twist to the page instead of having it plain white. It also makes for easy journaling on the page.
Canvas Corp’s paper bags are perfect for adding fun layers to your creations. Pair it with some E-Flute Paper which comes in different colors and you’re good to go.
I’ve die cut the Tattered Angels Corduroy Mistable Paper in different sized circles. I then misted and splattered it with Tattered Angels’ Cross My Heart, Emerald Green, and Pearl Glimmer Mists. I have to say that the Cross My Heart Glimmer Mist is one of the most amazing red mist out there!
How adorable is the fussy cut present from the All Wrapped Up Reverse Paper, which is sitting nicely among the cluster and goes with the jolly photo?
Carrying on with the fun theme, I layered the Candy Canes Paper on top of the Journal Lines on Ivory Paper. The look of the white against the ivory is amazing.
For more splash of color, I misted the same shades of Glimmer Mists to the background, and some splatters of the It’s Black Glimmer Mist for the final touch.
So traditional Christmas colors are perfect for the New Zealand Christmas but warm clothes, hot chocolate and snowball fights will not be a topic of the photos Down Under. So embrace traditions from around the world and maybe one holiday you will want to try something different – Christmas eating strawberries, Christmas at the beach, Christmas on the high seas, Christmas on a snow covered mountain or maybe a trip to the North Pole.
